Classification: The Emperor Scorpion's scientific term is Pandinus imperator. another name for the emperor scorpion is the imperial scorpion. It is part of the arachnid group and is related to spiders.
Anatomy/Appearance: Emperor scorpions grow up to 8 inches long. Males usually grow up to 6 inches. Females are bigger than males. They weigh about 30 g. They have a shiny/dark color.
Life Cycle/Reproduction: When babies are born they are white. After they are born they go on the moms back. After their first molt they leave her back. If they don't leave the mom might eat them.
Habitat & Range: It lives in African Rain forests & also in savanna tropical forests & open savannas. It burrows in the dirt & hides beneath rocks, debris, & also burrows in termite mounds.
Locomotion: They walk the same as a 4 legged creature except they have 8 legs and can use their tail. They move 1-2 km per hr.
Defense: They use their pinchers to kill prey saving stinger for larger prey. Its predators are birds, spiders, bats, and other mammals.
Diet: They eat termites, but they may also sometimes eat each other! They grab & crushes prey with its pinchers while the stinger injects them with venom. They eat the inside and leave the shell behind.
Adaptations: They have sensory hairs on their tail and pinchers that feel vibrations because their eyes aren't that good. They have large pinchers and are one of the biggest types of scorpions.
